The expansion of the I-57 interchange at Exit 71 will benefit both Benton and West City providing improved access to both communities and increasing potential business development along both sides of the interstate. It will reduce commercial truck traffic on the over-burdened Benton town square . . . allow faster access to Franklin Hospital saving precious time during life-saving emergencies . . . and improve access to three industrial centers making them more attractive to new businesses. Additional freeway access will improve safety by giving drivers additional time and space to merge thus reducing accidents by an estimated 14%.
With Rend Lake attracting more than three million visitors each year, tourism has become a growing segment of our economy. The interchange expansion will greatly improve visitor access to campground areas and the Rend Lake
Visitor Center. Frontage roads along interstate highways throughout our country have increased opportunity
for commercial growth.
